Can I use the Little Wandle Fluency programme with my Year 1 children?

In short, no. Please don’t rush ahead, instead, use the core programme books fully to ensure your children build up a really secure base in their reading, spelling, vocabulary and understanding of the world

We have carefully designed the Little Wandle Fluency programme to support children to transition from phonics to fluent reading. The length, content and word choice are all designed for children in Year 2 who have mastered Phase 5. It may be tempting to dip into the Little Wandle Fluency programme with your most confident readers in Year 1, however, we have ensured that there are plenty of Phase 5, set 5 books and Stretch and challenge books to give these children all the practice they need.
