Can we use actions/rhymes, like Jolly Phonics for example?
We do not include action/rhymes or songs in Little Wandle when teaching new GPCs. The thinking behind this is that we want the children to think about learning the sounds and blending them together. If we include actions, rhymes or songs those movements and words become the thing the children are thinking about, rather than the sounds and blending.
There is no evidence to suggest additional activities such as songs and actions help children learn the GPC and they are not part of the programme.
