What will help my Reception children to read with automaticity?
Repetition is key!
Provide lots of opportunity for repeated practice throughout the day using your review words to develop fluency. Provide gentle reminders to ‘blend in your head’ and to read it ‘quicker this time’.
Use the Daily Keep-up ‘How to’ video: ‘Reading words without overt blending’ with whole class/group/individuals to encourage automatic reading and don’t forget to use decodable words as passwords on your classroom door.
