How can we build automaticity?

Take a look at these seven super tips from our training team.

• Ask children to reread the review words throughout the day to develop fluency.
• Provide gentle reminders to ‘blend in your head’ and to read it ‘quicker this time’.
• Teach children how to blend in their head using whisper blending and nodding for each sound.
• Do the same word a few times so they get the feeling of reading without effort.
• Use the Daily Keep-up ‘How to’ video called Reading words without overt blending with whole class/group/individuals to encourage automatic reading.
• Keep your word cards with you and use any spare moment to add in a Shuffle time.
• Use decodable words as passwords on your classroom door or around school.
