How do I support children who are making quicker progress in the lesson?

Don't accelerate them – except in exceptional circumstances. Use the ‘Repeated practice throughout the day’ document in the Implementation area to find some ideas on how to extend these children. You should use your professional judgement to create challenge for these children, for example by emphasising spelling in the lessons for them, by using the sentence to read as a sentence to write, and later on by using the words from the lesson as root words to explore adding suffixes for spelling.
