How effective is the SEND programme for children who have Autism Spectrum Condition and are non-verbal?
We have recently expanded on our SEND planning and resources for schools, with more information below.
Our Little Wandle SEND programme has been developed to be used with the graduated approach to teach children to learn to read in small steps that provide the right amount of challenge. We anticipate that most children and young people who follow it will be in specialist provision of some kind.
The SEND programme isn’t additional practice for those children who are falling slightly behind their peers. It provides pathways for pupils who may need very specific adaptations to the teaching steps because they have complex needs, and has been developed with the advice from Special schools across the country.
As a complete programme, members will find all the elements in our SEND programme that they see in the main programme. So, there will be weekly lesson plans, guidance, a teacher’s guide, support for reading, ‘How to’ videos and so on.
We have also developed specific placement and summative assessments for SEND so members will be able to measure children’s progress and accurately plan for next steps.
We also have extra bespoke resources released for SEND schools. You can find out more about these resources by speaking to your local Collins representative.
