How should we use whiteboards in the lesson?

Many of our member schools choose to use whiteboards, not least because they are a very effective Assessment for Learning (AfL) tool, as you can quickly check who will need further support that day.

If you do use whiteboards, make sure that you organise them well to cut down on the time you spend handing them out. Here are some suggestions:

  • Give each child a zippy wallet containing a board and pen.
  • Allocate board and pen monitors.
  • Ask children to sit on their boards when they’re not using them.

However you decide to make whiteboards work, set high expectations and train the children well to ensure success.
