I have a child in Year 1 who is not blending, what should I do?
If you have a child in Year 1 who has been following an SSP but is not yet blending, give them urgent targeted support in the form of 1:1 additional blending practice. Use the Daily Keep-up planning materials and resources.
If the child is still not blending despite significant additional practice in Daily Keep-up sessions, we recommend you seek specialist advice before deciding whether they need to follow the Little Wandle SEND programme using the graduated approach.
The SEND programme is for children with a significant SEND that affects cognition. If a child is unable to blend because they are new to English or have EAL, use the Daily Keep-up planning to support them.
Here is a handy blog ‘Everybody blend’ which has useful guidance to support children who find it hard to master blending.
