Is the Foundations programme suitable for two-year-olds?
The programme is broken down into three areas, two of which are definitely suitable for your younger children. Here’s a quick rundown!
👍 Foundations for Language is designed to give your team a shared understanding of what quality interactions look like, so that you can maximise your children’s language development. Think of is as a ‘toolkit’ of techniques to be used across your setting for all children.
👍 Foundations for a Love of Reading is about delivering engaging story times, creating rich learning opportunities around picture books and ensuring that books and rhymes are woven throughout your provision. So again, this part of the programme can be used with every child.
⛔ Foundations for Phonics is different! The skills associated with phonological and phonemic awareness are aligned with what Development Matters suggests should be the learning focus for three- and four-year-olds. So, please reserve this part of the programme for children who will enter Reception within the next year.
