I’ve just done my Summer 1 assessments for Reception, why haven’t the book levels gone up?
When you do your Summer assessment in Reception, you must include all the words that the child has read automatically. In order to get a Level 4 book, the children need to read at least five decodable words without sounding them out.
Remember – automatic word reading is not about speed, it’s about reading without sounding out so it doesn’t matter if a child takes some time to get it. It’s important that you remind them to ‘read the word, blend in your head’ so they know what is expected.
If they can’t blend the word in their head, please take a look at our short Coaching fluent reading video to see how best to support them.
