I’ve seen some ‘Little Wandle’ workbooks advertised, are they anything to do with the programme?
To be absolutely clear, these are not our workbooks.
We’re aware that CGP are selling workbooks with the Little Wandle name on them. They have been produced without our knowledge, and we do not endorse them.
Little Wandle does not, and never will, offer worksheets or workbooks.
Why?
They run counter to the Little Wandle pedagogy, which is that expert direct instruction from trained staff is how children learn to read. That’s why we say no to ‘phonics’ in continuous provision and it’s why we say no to workbooks and worksheets.
At the very early stages of learning, a lack of direct teacher input risks children embedding or overlearning misconceptions. Not only is this unhelpful for children, but it also makes your job in the classroom even harder than it is now!
