Our Year 1 children are not on track. What do we need to do for transition for Year 2?
The Phonics Screening Check will have identified where the specific gaps are and therefore determine what you need to teach first in Year 2.
Go back in the planning and teach any gaps. Then ensure the children finish the programme. Make sure that you assess after each block of teaching. For example, if you are going back to teach Spring 2, you will need to assess Spring 2 before you move onto the next block of teaching to ensure children’s knowledge is secure.
Any child who is not secure in Phase 3 or 4, or is behind the rest of the cohort in Phase 5, needs Daily 1:1 Keep up for Year 1, which should start in Autumn 1 and continue until they are fluent.
