Should we be assessing our Year 1 children using the fluency assessments?

If your children have been reading Phase 5, Set 3 or 4 books for at least five weeks you can carry out the Year 1 fluency assessments. Choose the assessment for the level book that the children have been reading.

This information will help you ensure their Year 2 teacher knows which children are reading slowly and therefore not able to build an accurate mental model of what they are reading.
