Some of my families lack the confidence to support their children with reading. What can I do to help?
If family members lack confidence with supporting their children:- Why not invite them into school at the end of the day for an after-school reading club?
- Help them to support their children with their reading.
- Invite them to watch a phonics lesson first and then they can chat to the adults.
- Open a ‘Reading Café’ with tea, coffee and treats to create a safe place for families to come and hear these crucial messages.
- Run a workshop using our presentations and handouts to show them some of the resources on offer to support them.
Create extra times in the school day for children to practise their reading if you know it’s tricky for them to do this at home.
