The tricky words I’m testing the children on in the Autumn 2 assessment slides (go, she, of, the, has) are not the tricky words covered in the reading practice sessions.
Yes, it is correct – all the tricky words in the books have been taught in Autumn 2 and will be reviewed during Spring 1, so we know the tricky words will have been practised enough to be sure the children can read them in the books. We don’t want knowledge of tricky words to hold children back from reading a book at the correct level in terms of phonic knowledge.
We don’t assess all the tricky words in our summative assessments, as that would become the main part of the assessment rather than assessing the reading of decodable words with the GPCs the children have been taught.
If the child is secure with the decodable words and tricky words in the assessment as described in the matching grid then the book will be a good match for them.
