What does ‘ready for phonics’ mean and how can Foundations help?
To help children make a great start to learning Phase 2 in Reception, they should have well-developed listening skills and secure phonological awareness.
By playing Tuning into Sounds and Oral Blending games at least three times a week, you will be practising both listening and phonological awareness. Some children might seem ready for phonics already, but please focus on their other areas of learning whilst they are still in Nursery: they will fly when they get to Reception in all areas, not just their reading!
Above all, enjoy your last few weeks with your lovely little ones. Just think of how far they have come already and what great foundations you will have laid for them on their road to reading!
