What is in Little Wandle Fluency?
Little Wandle Fluency has 60 inspirational books written by well-known authors. These books have been designed to teach all aspects of reading and help your children become readers for life!
- The books progress from Fluency 1 to Fluency 10. Fluency 1 books are designed for a reading speed of 60wpm (the expected level at the end of the Little Wandle programme) and Fluency 10 for a reading speed of 120wpm (beyond the expected level for Year 3).
- Each book is six chapters long and each 25- to 30-minute lesson focuses on one chapter.
- The children read aloud in every lesson and are taught prosody and practise repeated reading.
- We teach comprehension using a dialogic talk model so that children can enjoy discussing what they have read and link it to their experiences.
- The comprehensive teaching notes, word cards, and supportive guidance and training are all downloadable, making sure you have everything you need to teach.
- You can timetable and group Little Wandle Fluency lessons flexibly. We recommend that you teach the books over two or three weeks.
- Fluency 1 to 5: groups of 6 to 10 children
- Fluency 6 to 10: groups up to 15 children
- Once children have graduated from the Little Wandle main programme with a reading speed of at least 60wpm and an accuracy rate of 90%+, they can start to read the Fluency 1 books. Children further up the school can be assessed and join Little Wandle Fluency at the right level for them.
- Regular fluency assessments help you to track children’s progress and move them through the Fluency books.
- The prosody grid helps you to assess children’s growing prosody looking at expression, smoothness, rhythm and phrasing.
- Little Wandle Fluency is perfect for children graduating from Rapid Catch-up too. Use their final assessment to place them on the Fluency books and see them become confident fluent readers!
