What is the Little Wandle Rapid Catch-up programme?

Our Rapid Catch-up programme is designed for children in Year 2 and above who are not reading at the expected level for their age.

It mirrors the main phonics programme but has been created to help children catch up quickly, so has a faster pace. By the end of the Rapid Catch-up programme, children should be reading with enough fluency and accuracy to access the curriculum in class, and to read with enjoyment and understanding. 

The Rapid Catch-up programme includes: 

• A comprehensive teacher’s guide with planning grids, lesson templates and prompt cards. See samples of Phase 3 and Phase 5 planning grids.  
• Grapheme cards for Phases 2, 3 and 5 
• Word cards and tricky word cards for all phases 
• 50 new decodable books from HarperCollins matched exactly to the Catch-up programme and designed for children aged 7+  
• 10 blending books from HarperCollins for Phases 2 and 3 – perfect for blending practice.

• Images for ‘Match the words to the pictures’.
