What is your advice about streaming?
The Little Wandle programme follows a strict whole-class teaching approach. For this reason, streaming is never an element of how we teach.
Included in your Little Wandle subscription are three programmes that have been designed specifically for children with different needs and rates of progress:
- Daily Keep-up – resources and planning for use with children in Reception and Year 1 who need support to keep up.
- Rapid Catch-up – for use with children in Year 2 and above who need more support with mastering the phonic code and becoming fluent readers.
- SEND programme – for children who need a graduated approach to Little Wandle.
The only children who can potentially be taught separately are those:
- with very large gaps
- who are following the SEND programme
- who are working several phases below their peers.
However, this decision should only be taken if your school is able to offer high-quality teaching to those children, away from their class teacher.
The vast majority of children are better served by staying in class with their teacher and then being given additional support outside of the lesson, through Daily Keep-up.
