When should we start teaching Summer 1 in Year 1?
Start teaching our fantastic Summer 1 planning in the first week back after Easter. This will mean you have time to teach the six weeks of lessons that revise everything the children need to get them ready for the Phonics Screening Check, as well as have time for the Assess and review week. So long as you stop teaching the Spring 2 content and switch to Summer 1 planning at this point, your children will be very well prepared for the PSC.
And if you haven’t managed to complete the Spring 2 content before you need to switch to Summer 1? Don’t worry! As soon as the PSC is over, you can teach any untaught content, and do the Spring 2 assessment.
