How does automaticity affect the book levels set by the Assessment tracker?
The Assessment tracker uses a computer-generated calculation based on the assessment data that you have entered for each child to suggest their book level. For each child, it looks at:
- how many sounds they know
- how many words they can decode
- how many of those words they can read automatically (from Reception Summer 1 onwards).
You should always use suggested book levels in the context of your teacher judgement. If the levels look very different from your judgement this is likely due to insufficient assessment data having been entered into the tracker. The tracker can only work on what you’ve told us about each child, which is why adding reassessments to the tracker is so important.
