When should children start taking decodable books home in Reception?

Children should only take decodable books home that match their phonic knowledge.

In Reception our reading practice sessions start in Autumn 1 week 4. For the first three weeks of teaching we recommend that you send home Reading for Pleasure books for parents to read to children. Once reading practice sessions start, decodable books that match children's phonic knowledge should be sent home with them.
