Why does the boy says /y/ as /ee/ in the pronunciation videos?

The little boy says /yee/ not /ee/. He has an accent from the Midlands so it sounds different from the southern way of saying the sound.

We never say /ee/ for the grapheme ‘y’ as in yo-yo. Listen to how you say /y/ in the words: yes, yo-yo and yellow and use this as your guide for pronouncing /y/.

The guidance for how to make the sound is clear both in the lesson plans and the Phase 2 grapheme information sheet.
